OK I saw Star Wars for my eighth birthday. I loved it. I then saw The Empire Strikes Back with my sister on our own. We saw The Return of the Jedi to get us out of the house while the movers were there. I loved all three of them. Fast forward sixteen years and I was not bothered to see The Phantom Menance at the cinema and after seeing it on DVD I was not not going to see The Attack of the Clones. I still have not. I did go and see Revenge of the Sith tonight with my 10 (nearly 11) year old son. He loved it. I think he has seen Star Wars on the television. Not sure about the others. I’ll have to borrow them from someone soon.
Warning spoilers ahead.
I liked it, but of course there were few surprises. The fight scenes were good, but too many. Can you have too many? I think you can. Anakin and Obi-wan fight loads of robots and then a Sith lord, Obi-wan fights more robots, Yoda and Palpatin have a bash, Anakin goes on a killing rampage, they then have to fight each other. We know they are both going to survive, but it was interesting to see how it all happened. I did not expect Anakin to go nuts against Padme though. Anakin on fire was a bit grim though. I can see why they had a 12A certificate. Also violence against a woman, slaughter of children and unarmed persons. The birth scene was pretty tame. I’ve been at 4 births and they must have some great drugs 😉
The emotion scenes were pretty terrible. Hayden Christensen was rubbish when trying to show the confusion of Anakin. Maybe it was meant to be played that way. Less action, more emotion would have made it better for me. Must be getting old.
