Hello again

It’s been a while since I wrote anything. I’m doing this on an iPaq from work. I’m connecting via wireless and tapping away on the onscreen keyboard. It’s not as fast as typing, but you can get quite quick. This also accepts graffiti, like the Palm Pilot. I’ve switched to graffiti now. I’m hoping to get a newer model someday, maybe one with a phone. We’ll have to wait and see.

That was last night. No back with a keyboard. My laptop is one of millions which are having their batteries recalled. See www.dellbatteryprogram.com for details. I’m running on mains power and have taken the battery out. Probably not worth the bother, but as I’ve requested my replacement, I suppose it’s best to follow their advice.

Work is nothing like any where I’ve worked before. I’ve always working in software houses who have products they work on and sell. We sell a service, so things are different. I’m learning about the product we use to provide the backend and getting to grips with the UI design differences on a small screen. The Compact Framework does not have the same stuff as the full .Net Framework, so getting to grips with the differences is interesting. Also we don’t yet support .Net 2.0. Hopefully we’ll move to that soon. It’s been out over a year! I’m also learning SQL which is used by the backend.

I travel by train to work. It takes 30 minutes on the train. It’s just under 10 minutes to walk from here to the station and about the same to get from the station to work. Walking 40 minutes a day is helping with my very slow weight loss. I was asked if I’d like to play indoor netball once a week. The company has a team. I’ll go and watch and see how much effort it is. Hopefully I’ll give it a try and not pass out 🙂
