Expensive toffee

I’ve just eaten a toffee. Nothing interesting there. I’ve eaten several today. The annoying thing about the last toffee is that it broke a filling in a molar! Half of the tooth is filling and about a third of the filling has broken away. I had the filling about 25 years ago and I think it has been replaced once, but I can’t remember for sure. We’re not registered with a dentist yet, but it looks like Monday will include finding one. I’ll speak to people at church tomorrow and find out how expensive dentistry is here. 🙂

We had a primary party this afternoon, which is where the toffee came from. Ben and I were in charge of the ‘sausage sizzle’. Sausages are something that New Zealand does not do better than the UK. Maybe we should try and find a better range of sausages. They seem to be made out of ‘every meat’ in the same sausage. Pork, beef, chicken, turkey and goodness knows what else. Not that a cheap sausage in the UK was much better. Lard, ears, connective tissue, skin and offal. Nothing wrong with offal as long as you know what you are getting.

Today has been sunny and warm, so no complainants. Has been windy most of the day, but this evening it had really picked up.

There is a fireworks display in the park about 3 km from here, so we are hoping to see some of it through the front window. There is a lot of low cloud around, so we may see nothing. There is a big display in Wellington harbour next Saturday. It doesn’t start until 9pm, but at least it is free. it would be tricky to stop half the city seeing it from their windows 🙂
